About Us

Award-winning Active was founded in 1999 by Mr Ian Nicol and is now established as one of the few leading experts in the application of sustainable energy systems for both domestic and commercial projects in the North East of Scotland.
We specialise in micro-renewables, efficient air-conditioning and ventilation solutions and are fully accredited the industry standards including MCS, CHAS and HVCA.
Quality assurance is one of the key foundations for our excellent reputation and we are proud to maintain our high standards of both quality and customer service at all times.
Our vision is to make a significant contribution towards meeting the targets set by Scottish Government for renewable energy, aiming for 50% of Scotland's electricity and 11% of its heat to be met from renewable sources by 2020.
In line with this, our mission statement is to encourage the uptake of micro-renewables through delivering honest business, providing a single, convenient source for the procurement of complete energy saving systems – Active.
Our flagship project and former head quarters, the Active Renewable Energy Centre (AREC) Altens, is one of the most energy efficient and sustainable buildings in the UK. It showcases the vast range of micro-renewable solutions Active can provide, and how they can effectively work alongside each-other. Site visits can be arranged on request.
Our showroom at the Haudagain roundabout in Aberdeen has recently closed to the public as Active has recently relocated to its new premises in Westhill. The new HQ already incorporates solar thermal and solar PV and we intend to include further additions for demonstration purposes in the near future. Please feel free to contact us to arrange a free consultation at Westhill or Inverness where our staff will be happy to help.
